Today, we are starting a series that will bring the necessary revolution to the way some professionals handle their personal brands.  To this end, I am determined to blaze a trail where many have feared to walk. I am not out to blame anybody but to help our men Of God understand and use meaningful weapon that will enhance their performances in their callings. Because I think this does not make them ungodly.

This is a target audience specific, I will be constraint to use pastor’s constitution which determines, guides their behaviours and callings-The Bible. Anyone who has anything against this should please skip this article and go to the next.

The need for this article came as a result of my experience in this regard. Around March this year, a friend of mine who is the Founder of The Image School, Lagos Nigeria organized a training for pastors and non-profit owners (where I also facilitated) on impression/image management. While he was on the Radio to talk about the programme, one Man of God sent him a text message saying that he was being sponsored by the devil to organize such a programme. We could not but laugh at such text message and moved on.

Pastors need to take care of their personal brands. Branding started with God and personal brand is vital to God. In Zechariah 3.1-3, God specifically talked about the personal brand of one of His great Servants-Joshua. God said “Joshua was a brand plucked out of fire”. The question I asked then is: can we be holier/know better than God Himself?

Having established this, let us examine how personal brand can be useful to Pastors:

1. Every pastor must understand his voice: The foundation of every personal brand is to know who you are. Problems arise when a man does not or can not clearly understand his own voice.

3. Every messenger needs a Bazeel: God gave Moses an assignment to build an act. God knew Moses was not an architect/professional, so He placed a Bazeel-professional in the camp who could help him break down the message to what people will understand. Consult a brand expert to help you fine-tune the brand.

3. Speak the target audience language: every pastor must learn to speak in    clear terms that his/her target audience can understand. This helps the brand so much

 4. Brand identity: The church visual identity is important. Certain colours go with religion. Pastor’s personal visual identity is also important. Dress sense must be appealing because he/she is dealing with humans and not spirit.

5. Internet: The World Wide Web (www) is not the box of the devil. Use this to enhance your personal brand and make your effectiveness global.

N.B. The second part will be inside my free ebook. Look out for it.

The picture above is that of Pastors sam &Nike Adeyemi of Daystar Christian centre, Lagos. Both are frontline pastors who had changed the face of ministry through proper brand management.  N.B. We do not have their permissions to use this picture. in other words, we are not sponsored to do this. Just pure coincidence.
