Building Personal brand reputation.

Reputation is defined as the general estimation in which a person is held by the public. It is also the state or situation of being held in high esteem. A specific Characteristic or trait ascribed to a person or thing. One can have a reputation for courtesy.

 Reputation is one of the pillars upon which trust is based. Even though there seems to be much confusion between trust and reputation. But we like to say that reputation is a building block for trust. Reputation is also some else’s story about me. Though with great professional acumen one can consciously build a reputation that one desires but one may not be able to totally control what others say about one. Reputation is often closely related to identity. Reputation exists in the framework the public.

Reputation is also associated with currency or a legal tender/standing that can be used to earn something else. Reputation is also dynamic and may change per time. Reputation can also base on ratings or endorsement of others. A positive personal or corporate reputation can be critical to booming venture.

There are some ways an individual can build his reputation. These include:

1. Dynamic exploitation of existing assets: every one has an asset no matter how small it can be. Individual can start annexing these assets as a way of building personal branding rating.

2. Development of core competencies/niche: One other way to still build personal reputation is to develop, sharpen a niche that one is known with.

3. Image management: conscious management of personal image can also enhance one’s reputation building

4.  Strategic alliances: Show me your friends and I will tell you who are still hold water. Watch out for the kind of people you fraternize with. More importantly, watch your brand environments like your office environment, location, what you wear etc.

 If all is said and done, character is important to sustain any reputation an individual has built.

      Thanks for this question.I am of the opinion that except you are not a known face, you actually do not need a rebranding immediately. I think the most importamt things are to monitor what is being said so you know when a matter is still within incubation period and be there to offer sincere response, outline your own side before the rumour spread. Use all the online platforms available especially your own blog to make clarifications, never be angry in your response etc. You may ask others to help verify your claims. Find ways to get the negatives to the fourth of fifth page of google search for you .
      If all these fail then you can think about rebranding

    Thanks for your answer. My point was to people like Kayne West, Serena Williams, etc. so I’m not a known face :)

    So what you outlined above is not the re-branding process?

    Enhancing the online presence = reputation will lead to enhance our personal brand.

    A powerful share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing somewhat analysis on this. And he in reality bought me breakfast as a result of I discovered it for him.. smile.
