Brand Communication: How to strengthen online influencer’s position

Brand influencerOnline influencerToday I may not command the kind of online attention desired, but I must acknowledged I am not where I used to be. You do not become an influencer overnight. It is a product of consistent action, learning on the way and making adjustment where necessary. In the course of my journey I have discovered some salient strategies that make an online influencer brand what it is. An Influencer is someone who commands attention, enjoys power, authority and followership from a set of people who share same opinion. This is what I will be sharing today. This list is not exhaustive so you can add yours at the comment section.

 Have a face: No matter where you are today, being anonymous hurts more than anything else. Every true influencer has a face. Most do not use fictitious name or photo. No one will believe someone who aspires to command respect and his not willing to be known. People want to be associated with a real person who is not afraid or timid. Having a face also include hosting your own website, weblog, have a facebook fan/page with professional picture of yours etc.

Acknowledge other’s work; link to them, comment on their works, post and help spread positive opinions about them. Most influencers have learnt the art of relationship building. They do not feel they have arrived and other upcoming online actors do not matter. They try hard to respond to requests made despite their tight schedules. Influencers like Jeremiah Owang, Gary Vaynerchucks, Meg Guissep and William Arruda excel in this. No wonder they will continue to remain positive influence.

Spread your content: using one platform today may not get you enough eyeballs that guarantee expected exposure influencers need. Submit your contents to several directories as long as you do not abuse the rules.

Speak up: Do not just protect your interest, but be a voice to the voiceless. Be the voice for others who are trying to grow their status. Most renowned influencers are not selfish.

Seek and get relevant attention: major influencers are acknowledged by renowned media across platforms. If we must say the truth, major media platforms get a lot of ‘attention-seekers’ requests. They often end up trashing many of these requests. The secret here is to understand  these major platforms also have needs. Find out what their needs are and help them meet it if you can. They want quality news for their audience. If you are that bridge they can use, they will give you coverage for free.

Work your ass off: to become extra ordinary you need to put in extra work than most people out there. Posting content once a week or a month will not get you there for a long time. Except you have become an international figure, you do not excel with once a week or once a month content publishing. Interestingly most international influencers do not stay with one post per week. They have developed strong relationships with others who help as content contributors.

Learning: influencer has an unquenchable thirst for acquiring new knowledge. They know that yesterday’s knowledge is obsolete today. Influencer must keep up influencing the paradigm shift in their field. Otherwise, their followers will go elsewhere. The day an influencer stops learning is the day his/her relevance enters reverse gear. People troop after you because you are adding value. When the value starts reducing other opportunist will take advantage of your position.

Show you are human: Influencers do not pretend they are spirit or a rare being who is infallible. They acknowledge they are human who is susceptible to errors. They try harder to reduce its level of occurrence though. To become an influence, demonstrate your strength and acknowledge your weakness. Many will love you for that instead of covering up.
