Social media, Social media strategy development, Online Business, online reputation management, Social listening, digital servicesThe world is changing. The way businesses are run has also been affected for good. Having a business now does not mean you have to have tangible or physical services to offer. Many start-ups are now being run without cash. A classic example is people starting online, digital services. Many work from home yet they are delivering values.

But running from home has its own challenges. For many they have issues separating bedtime from work time. Since they are still within their houses, this mindset will not allow them to think differently. If you have issue with this, it is better to get a place to manage.

For most of us in Africa, running a digital or social media firm may not give you a sense you are fully engaged. In most cases, people see you with laptop hence the notion that you may be one of these cybercriminals surges high. In this piece we are examining what will make you a successful digital media service provider.

What counts?: No digital or online media business can be so successful if the owner does not first seat down to determine what counts. Some place emphasis on cash, while other believes cash will definitely follow impact. There is a wide gulf between these two orientations. So, what your goal is?

Love what you are doing:  the best way to show you are really working is a passion for what you are doing. You must have a lot of excitement and reservoirs of ‘gas’ in your store. This will propel a mind to work hard whether there is initial breakthrough or not.

When you feel down look at the progress you have made: online business is not a quick fix it. Some may begin to reap harvest after two months while it takes a year before your own harvest start. All you need to know is to find out if you are doing it right. As soon as this is established, always look back at how far you have come. In the process of time, your global rating would have changed as many people now have access to your mind and thinking. Many you have not met physically now know you. These should serve as energiser.

Place value on physical human interaction: we need to understand physical meaningful interaction is not equal to many virtual exchanges in some cases. While virtual may be cost effective, a deliberate act of reaching out to key supporter will help your business in no small way.

Use your morning wisely: Since you will start small, many do not understand a need to use their morning hours wisely. Many are in their best elements in the morning hours. Do not waste these precious times because you think no one is calling.

Hire wisely: There is no need to gather cost. To be in digital business, owner must have an overall idea of all the major skills required. Hire only when it is highly essential. If need be outsource more when there is a big job.

You must love a lot of brain work: digital media services require a lot of brain work. If you are physical energy driven, quit now.

Read, read and read: digital environment keeps changing, hence to keep pace, read, read, read.

Innovate: Always look for the ways to do it better. Channel your uniqueness.

Network, Network, Network: A digital services provider must know how to network. This is not only virtual networking but must include physical alliances

Understand process: when you are first starting, do not act  like the popular Jones. Let your price be moderate. Sometimes you may offer free services to break in.

Be on the client side, Always! There is no golden advice that is better than this.

Do not forget to promote: Promotion is not a bad word as many think. It only becomes a bad omen when pride and ego are mixed with the real value.

Constantly monitor your reputation online: since most of your services are online, keeping an eye on your corporate reputation is a must

Share. Share. Share! Sharing is the most effective way to greatness. Hoarding will only bring diminishing returns here.

Mind your language: Never use foul languages. Remember everything online can be searched. Do not get angry and let no one provoke you to the extent you will be cursing or using ‘F’ language.

Watch new trends but do not jump on every digital vehicle: keep an eye on trends within the digital arena. Stay informed. But a golden rule is never jump on every digital vehicle.

Do not be greedy or selfish: selfishness and greed will kill.

Constantly evaluate progress: be involved in constant personal and corporate evaluation. Find out what is not working and be willing to dump them no matter how attached you are to the trend.

Listen, listen , listen: in addition to the above, keep listening to what people are saying. you do not know it all. Be sure you make use of the feedbacks

Invest in tools: Digital tools make work easy. Make a deliberate effort in investing in tools. What a long piece but i do think it worth the while.
