brand equitypersonal brand equityPeople today need to realize like never before that they have only one life to live. This one life needs to be lived to the fullest. The choice of what becomes your personal brands in the marketplace is not anybody’s but yours! Earning a living as well as standing out in the midst of our over communicated world is getting harder times and again. If what Ryan Stephenson says ‘the job market is becoming ever more fluid and unpredictable. You need all the help you can get’ is anything to go by, then most personal brands especially at the in the work place needs to do more to gain recognition. They can do this by building certain pillars that will strengthen their brands. The followings are some of the pillars I have noticed in the course of my assignment.

Perception is reality: To strengthen your brand in the market, you need to believe in the cliché-perception is reality. Never get carry away with the fact that hard work will distinguish you. What is your stakeholder’s perception of your brand counts? You may not be able to control stakeholder’s perception but you can manage it. Learn how to

Information and knowledge sharing is power: information or knowledge used to be absolute power. Today the playground has shifted. It is now knowledge shared is power. To boost your personal brand in the market, you need to be a reservoir of knowledge. You must be a go- to person in your niche. You must be in position to distribute relevant, helpful knowledge that can aid your perception. Hoarding the ‘little’ information you have today will not help your brand positioning at all. When i say little I meant when you compare to what is available out there.

Image counts: people say image is everything. While I do believe that image counts, I am of the opinion that image should be viewed seriously as one of the pillars that will enhance personal brand. No matter what, personal brand must look the part without forgetting other basic ingredients that will position the brand in its niche. Never undervalues your personal brand through an assumption that what you wear or how you appear is not important. Apparels proclaim a man is an old but relevant cliché.

Work out your visibility plan: Robert Green says ‘better to be maligned than to be ignored. What is not seen does not count. The days are over when you will want your personal brand to remain unnoticed.

Learn to reduce your personal liabilities and weakness: no brand is totally free of weaknesses. Those who are extroverts have tendencies to overdo stuffs while those who are introverted sometimes love to be operating from background. A daily consistence effort to reduce personal liabilities will go in a long way in strengthening personal brand power in the marketplace.

Powerful networks: The best way to generate powerful networks is not to constantly ask for favour but to go out of your ways to help big shots solve their problems. Many people believe powerful people do not have any puzzle they are trying to resolve. That is a blatant lie. First, assess your skill and study the network you are trying to break into and find out how your skills can help them to get result quickly. Do this genuinely as any cover ups will be noticed by them.

Take your interest seriously: no one will help you clean your issues. So you need to take responsibility for your own success. You can’t believe what they say. No one has your interests more at heart than you do. That’s why you need to filter the world before letting it in. Do not allow negatives to permanently destroy your horizon. Remember your horizon is yours not others.  What do you think? Please let me know. Use the comment section.
