Secret of happiness,Professional success strategy, digital media successA state of happiness is considered a vital part of ingredients that will guarantee equitable and balanced approach to economic growth. It can also promote sustainable development, poverty eradication and the well-being of all peoples. The United Nations General Assembly has therefore seen a necessity in declaring March 20 every year as International Day of happiness. Yesterday happened to be the first global celebration of this all important day.

Part of the goal of this celebration is the recognition that happiness is a fundamental human goal. It is also a wakeup call for every nation to create policies that will improve the well-being of all people.  A tall order we must admit. The United Nations is of the opinion international Happiness Day presents the opportunity to reflect on what a good human life looks like and why political, social and economic harmony are so vital. Additionally the UN acknowledges that in order to attain global happiness, economic development must be accompanied by social and environmental well being. As we know happiness seems like an elusive commodity in our world. Many professionals are so confused they result to drug to cushion effects of lack of fulfilment.

In the spirit of the International day of happiness, we will like to quote two outstanding individuals who helped shaped better perspective of ingredients of happiness. One is Mother Teresa. She said:  People are often unreasonable and self-centred. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.  If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”  We cannot also forget what Albert Camus once said: ‘happiness is not something readymade, you can never be happy if you keep looking for what it consist, you must have a personal definition of it’.

Now for us in the digital media industry, we strongly feel the following routes will help us achieve professional happiness.

Choices: Choices and decision determine destiny. We have got to make right choices in every sphere of life. Life daily presents us with choices. Choices to be negative, to give up or to abandon the projects we are involved in. The choices we eventually made will go a long way to affect personal happiness. So, it is essential to make informed choices in every situation.

Chances: this will also play a vital role in professional pursuit of happiness. Opportunities are everywhere. But we must note not every chance, opportunities are good for us. Opportunity and chance to take the short course in life should be weighed with personal goal. Never work with another person’s personal wrist watch is a popular Nigeria adage.

Circumstances: Many circumstances will want to derail you or make you go off course. Many will lead to the right door. Be so sure you maximize every situation even when the return is low.

Contribution to success of others: At every level of professional journey, there is someone we can help with our skills and time. Contribute to others’ happiness and you will be shocked how fulfilled and happy you will be when you are the sunshine across someone’s path.

Are we missing anything? Add to the conversation.
