Value of communications in Marketing and relationship success, Impact of valentine on marketing and relationshipsThe world is brimming with valentine blues. The season is here again. Lovers, spouses and people use the occasion to bound and express their feelings. Though the origin of valentine is associated with Saint Valentine who made huge sacrifice. But Valentine today is more about fun and sex.

The essence of this piece basically is not about valentine per se. It is finding the relationship between the seasons, marketing plus relationships and how communications become so essential.

Many people fail in marketing and relationship because they do not know how nurturing play a big value in the equation. Relationships have their fundamental. So does marketing. There are casual, business and platonic relationships. Each of these relationships has its rule of the game.

At the foundation of success of all the marketing and relationship principles is an essential factor, which is communication. Communication is the lubricant that makes the relationship flow unhindered. Communications has to be mutual, respectful and beneficial even though there will be sometime conflictual conversation must be held with the ambit of love.

Marketing that is done like a typical valentine where lovers only remember each other few days to the valentine will fail. Communications must be maintained all the year round. Not only a few days to the valentine day, is which February 14. Valentine day is just one out of the usual 365 days that make a year. To excel in marketing and relationships, the oil of communications must constantly lubricate the wheel of progress.

Rushing to annex the benefits of sales (in marketing) without constant daily or periodic communications and seeking the interest of the customers will boomerang. This is same for relationship at any level.

Given the daily challenges everyone faces, couple with the pandemic, many are wondering how they can stay in touch, build stronger relationship with loved ones, customers in this instance for marketers despite the pandemic. Absence of this will destroy the value expected in every marketing activities. Here are my thoughts:

Keep the communications line open: Never hide under the notion of facing personal problems and forget to place a premium on your relationship with loved ones and customers.

Use all the communications platform: technology presents various opportunities to communicate with loved ones and customers without physical presence. Identify the ones that are effective for you and your clients etc.

Look for how to make them better: People face many challenges today. Do not add to their challenges. Be a problem solver. Aim to reduce the pains of your customers without outrageous demands for compensation for your good deeds.

Listen: while trying to be a problem solver to your loved ones or clients, buyers, listen to what they are saying. You may be doing the right thing at the wrong time. Be sure the value you aim at providing is the ones that actually need at the time.

Take feedback seriously😕 Communications, though two ways, should respect and act on the feedback from the other party. When we do not take and act positively on the feedback, we may create larger than life problem.

As a marketing professional or someone in relationships, make everyday a valentine and annex the benefits communications offer.
